CRACK
The first crack worried me.
So did the second.
Then so many appeared that I stopped counting them.
For years I tried to find out what was underneath. I scratched carefully, removed layers, even came to believe I would find an earlier version of myself, intact.
I found more layers.
Then I had a suspicion:
perhaps there was never an original surface.
