Rome has a particular way of saying goodbye to the day.

For a few minutes, stone no longer looks like stone. The city loses its weight, the domes burn, and time becomes difficult to date.

The face remains there, between two eras.

Perhaps Rome was never eternal.

Perhaps it simply learned how to grow old slowly.
